We know from the Scriptures that John the Baptist would constantly point to Christ, Whose forerunner he was, and Whom he declared to be mightier than he. Not only that Christ would be greater than he in His earthly ministry, but that this Christ would be the very sacrifice for sin that every sinner needs. This John the Baptist, born a little before the Saviour, was filled with the Holy Ghost from when he was in his mother's womb. So, for more than 30 years, this John, this born-again believer, was matured by the Spirit of God, and therefore became fruitful with the fruits of the Spirit. And yet, what do we see after these many years of personal faith, and then these few years of public ministry? We see a heartfelt desire that he and his ministry would pale into insignificance, and that Christ would receive all the glory and honour: 1) The Imperatives 2) The Context 3) The Results
