Paul's desire to know Christ, in Philippians 3:10, expresses our more profound need. We are living in a culture that indulges and passionately distorts the person of Jesus. Ours is a culture that seeks to alter the portrait of the real Jesus to suit man's imagination. We are tempted to long for a Jesus who agrees with us and accepts our misconceptions of him and our misguided opinions as to the truth.
Nevertheless, we must not lose heart because the real Jesus is available for us to know personally. That's why He asks His disciples, "whom do you say I am?" a question that we must all ask ourselves continually and sincerely.
Who is Jesus to you?
