Identity theft is a huge problem today. Scammers and hackers are trolling the internet seeking to steal your personal information in order to impersonate you, to access your bank accounts or to open credit in your name. So, we are required today to prove we are who we claim to be by showing photo identification or through sophisticated log on procedures and passwords. Now there were many in first-century Judaism who were claiming to be the Messiah. People followed them only to find out later that they were frauds. Jesus too claims to be the promised Messiah, the Great Shepherd of Israel. But is He genuine, the real deal? In John 10, Jesus reveals three tell-tale signs that He is the real deal. First, jesus enters by means of the door, that is, by means of fulfilled Old Testament prophecy. All told, Jesus fulfilled over 61 major prophecies at His first coming that proves He is the genuine item. Secondly, Jesus is the genuine Shepherd for the doorkeeper opens the door, the doorkeeper being John the Baptist as prophesied in Isaiah 40 and Malachi 3. The last tell-tale sign is that His sheep hear His voice and follow Him. As the genuine shepherd, He leads them and they follow--and the reason they follow is because they recognize His voice. The last tell-tale sign is in reality more of a tell-tale sign of whether we are genuine sheep. Have you heard the voice of the shepherd calling you to repentance and faith? Have you responded to the Shepherd's call and are following Him? For genuine sheep follow the genuine Shepherd!
