All faith is not the same faith. First, there is what is known as historical or notional faith. Then there is justifying (or saving) faith. Clearly in the passages quoted above, the faith in question is saving faith. After all, the believing in those passages is linked with salvation, the forgiveness of sins, justification, remission of sins, and so on. It must be saving faith which the verses speak of.7 Before I look at that, let me say a little more on the other, non-saving, kind of faith.
