During a time of great prosperity the Israelite's hearts began to turn away from the Lord, forgetting that every good gift comes from above. God, through Joel, is telling them that judgment is coming. God speaks through circumstances and, since we are living in similar times, is God trying to say to us what He was saying then? God, through shadow and type, is showing His church how he dealt with Israel. Are we hearing and heeding what God is saying to us, His church? God promises that if they repent He would turn His hand of judgment to one of favor. True repentance, true intimacy with God, is turning over everything that God shows us to everything that God is. Why should we be a repentant people? So that the world would see Him and they would have no excuse to say "Where is their God?
