God has graciously given us His incorruptible Word; it is simple, yet profound. And in it He tells that all things work together for good.
When we are in need, the fruit of this Word can be seen. We see that we need, as the chemist knows who mixes what would be poison to us with other substances to make a medicine that will cure us, is the good and the bad in our lives, and these work together for good.
To whom do they work together for good? To them that love God. You would think that this assurance would be said to come to those whom God loves, but here it is put as "to them that love God." We have the instance of Peter after the resurrection. Dear Peter had been through much anguish of heart before this, and Christ asked him, Do you love me?
In reading Psalm 77, we see how faith struggles, how often reason and carnal understanding speak to us, instead of faith. Yet the psalmist comes to the same place as in Psalm 139, of going to the sanctuary of God, and then understanding.
