God deals with David's sin in a very public way. God had elevated David to the throne of Israel and David's sin provides the occasion for mocking, scorn, and blasphemy against God. Without denying in any way the sin of David against Uriah and Bathsheba, the Scriptures tell us that David's sin is much worse than that. The representative of God's people has sinned against God. As we hear of God's judgment on David, we are brought face to face with the reality that all our sin is in fact sin against God, who made us and takes care of us.
