After the book of Zephaniah, Judah was removed from the promised land and taken into captivity for seventy years. With the seventy years in captivity accomplished, Judah returned to Jerusalem with instructions to rebuild the house of God. The work started strong but soon shut down. In response to Judah's neglect of the house of God, Haggai began to prophesy to the people. As such, Haggai was the first prophet to prophesy after Judah returned from Babylonian captivity. Two months after Haggai began to prophesy, Zacheriah began to prophesy alongside him. Ezra tells us that Judah prospered under the preaching of Haggai and Zechariah.
