We all go back to Adam and Eve, and to the family of Noah. Each person, from whichever race they come, is made in the image of God, of one blood. The Bible's account of creation is against racism.
But there is a rival explanation for the origin of man – Charles Darwin's theory of evolution.
If racism is still working in parts of white culture, the efforts of schools to eradicate racism are in a way doomed to failure because science in education only teaches evolution as the explanation for man's origins. Creationism can only be taught in schools as part of the religion syllabus.
Racism should not be in our blood
To be a Christian and to be a racist is a contradiction in terms. Nothing is clearer from Scripture than the fact that all races are descended from one blood. We are all made in the image of God and can see again how important it is to believe in the Bible's account of our origins, as given in the Book of Genesis.
We should hate sin of all kinds, and we should hate racism. We should hate any sense of superiority of any race. Ridding ourselves of racism is part of our sanctification.
It is white culture that is in the spotlight. So we begin with ourselves before we try to see what is happening in other cultures.
Do we have a negative view of different cultures and races, of black races, for example? What or who has shaped these views?
Then we are faced with the issue that lies, at the heart of sanctification namely, repentance. Are we willing to learn and change? Do we have prejudices that are stopping us being able to relate freely with other cultures? The word of God is calling us to repent, to learn, to change.
