In a time of confusion and rebellion, God speaks through Isaiah to remind his people of his worthiness to be trusted and obeyed.
There are truths remembered—the burden of worthless idols, bringing destruction, and the worthy God who bears his people, bringing salvation. There is majesty restated, as God declares himself the God who stands alone and supreme. There is government reinforced, with a reminder that all history—past, present and future—is under God's control, and all agents and agencies on earth are carrying out the purposes of a saving God.
Here is a rebuke to those who need the righteousness that only this God can provide, and a reminder to those who need to remember that we do not trust in the idols of this world and their empty offers, but in the living and true God.
