Despite the proven goodness and mercy, wisdom and love, of the God of our salvation, we seem as prone to doubt him as did the Israelites of old. Here Isaiah goes back to the exodus to remind God's people in his day, and us all the more, of God's heart toward us, his willingness and ability to bless. He reminds us of where the people were (in the dry places), how the people felt (tempted to grumble despite redemption), what the people enjoyed (gushing waters, abundant mercies), and what the Lord proved.
