We are first introduced to Barnabas in Acts chapter 4.
Barnabas is best remembered as the one that argued with Paul because Paul refused to take John Mark on another of his missionary journeys. He no longer accompanied Paul on his remaining missionary journeys. For this reason, it is believed that Barnabas was not as greatly used as the Apostle Paul. This is a total misconception
Some remember him for following Peter when he feared the Jews. (Galatians 2:11-13)

He is the one that is concerned about the ministry of others. He wants to know how God is working in the lives of others; how he can pray for them. He wants to know hew to be an encouragement to others. He expects nothing in return. He is a hero of the scripture for the very reason that he does not expect to be recognized as a hero.
