"When the Sabbath was past…" There was never before such a Sabbath as this. The body of Jesus lay in the tomb. His disciples were scattered and defeated. But on this morning we read that this sad Sabbath "was past"!
It is often in our darkest hours that our greatest deliverances are just around the corner. But, much more than that, in the resurrection of Jesus from the grace, we are reminded that even our dark times are part of God's perfect, overarching plan of redemption.
This is the pivotal point in all of human history: rather than becoming merely a victim of our sins, when Jesus rose from the dead he became victor over our sins and over death itself.
This is why, when we call ourselves Christians, we are above all else declaring our trust in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
