The disciples had allowed their grief to lead them to unbelief instead of faith, and friends we need to see this tendency in our own hearts as well. When bad things happen, when people we love die, when providence takes a dark turn in our lives and grief overwhelms us, we must beware the danger of letting our sorrow lead us into unbelief. How many times have we heard stories of professing believers who lose their faith because something bad happened to either them or someone they love. This is the tendency of the human heart. Grief can either drive us to Christ in faith or away from Christ in unbelief, so friends, don't let grief pull you away from Jesus. The power of his resurrection can dispel the darkness that hovers over our souls, just like it did with the disciples once they finally believed. They were brand new men restored by grace, ready to go to work for the cause of Christ, and by the same grace, we too can be restored and go in his name.
