Today I want us to see from the Book of Acts how the Church at Philippi actually began.
Did you know that the Church of Philippi was the first Church to be planted in Europe? Paul's first Missionary Journey had been completed and Paul gets a vision recorded in Acts 16.
In Acts 16 we can see the difference that God's servants can make to all classes of people. Paul knew that the Gospel was for the Upper Class and the Lower Class. He knew that the Gospel was for the Religious and the Irreligious. In Synagogues or in Cells, in fact wherever he was the Apostle Paul took the opportunity to share the Gospel. Rom 1:16 KJV For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Now after Paul gets the Macedonian Vision he and his companions set off in a boat to head for Macedonia in Greece.
Now when you study Paul's missionary journeys you find out that he would often go to the local Synagogue and there he would seek out fellow Jews and other God seekers. It made sense to try and reach people that Paul could identify with and who also had an interest in God. I wonder do you have a people group you can identify with? People that you have something in common with that you can reach out for the Gospel?
Paul and Silas end up in prison but the Jail House becomes a House of Joy because they had faith in Christ.
