Jesus' first followers faced His grave with fear and without hope. Like most people, they could not apprehend a sense of victory in the face of man's greatest enemy – death itself. Like us, these sorrowful disciples had forgotten Jesus' promise: He would give up His life but rise again on the third day. The gospel is God's glad proclamation that He has defeated sin -- and its death -- through the work of Christ. All who repent and trust in Christ are promised a share in Jesus' eternal victory! Christ's death on the cross purchased our forgiveness, and His resurrection is the receipt for His purchase of His own. Disciples are meant to live in the hope of His resurrection and ours: we are God's forgiven, blood-bought people, assured of rising, never to die again, just as Jesus rose and lives today. I hope to see you here this Sunday as we begin our look at Mark 16. See you here!
