Q. 83 Are all transgressions of the law equally heinous?
A. Some sins in themselves, and by reason of several aggravations, are more heinous in the sight of God than others.
Some Christians are surprised to hear this because James 2:10 says that if we sin in one point, we are guilty of all. But James is not saying that all sins are the same—just that any sin shows that we are not right with God. The scriptures teach that some sins are more heinous than others.
