'Are we a rising sun or a setting sun?' So Benjamin Franklin pondered as he sat in Independence Hall centuries ago. The fact that the United States is not mentioned or even alluded to in Biblical prophecy leads many to believe that we will not be the superpower in the end times. But while we do not know the future of our country, we do know that God is sovereign, that history follows God's plan. And that He is not only the God of History, but also the God of Mystery. He has revealed in His Word a 490-year plan for the Jewish people to accomplish His spiritual goals in preparing them for the return of their Messiah. But He has also revealed in His Word His plans for the Gentiles nations from the days of Babylon until the establishment of Christ's kingdom here on earth. Jesus calls this period of Gentile domination, 'The Times of the Gentiles". God revealed to Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, in a dream the course of Gentile history. This sermon explores the Crux of the Mystery, that is, it deals with the 'latter days'; the Challenge to the Mystery by liberal scholars who claim that Daniel 2 is history, not prophecy; the Course of the Mystery in the dream itself. At the end of the times of the Gentile, what we today call the 'West' will dominate the world, and from the 'West' will come the final world leader, the antichrist. The sermon concludes briefly with a discussion of the Climax, which is the return of Jesus Christ and the establishment of His kingdom here on earth.
