The sorrow of Jesus is not that of morbid self-centeredness, but the righteous emotional reaction to the reality of death. It is an emotion closely aligned with compassion. The apex of sorrow for the "Man of Sorrows" was His death on the cross. We must learn how to be less self-centered so that we can righteously grieve for others. When was the last time you wept with those who weep? We must endeavor to cultivate godly sorrow - especially sorrow for sin. Be assured that Jesus knows by experience whatever emotion we experience and He can, by His Spirit, train us to cultivate obedient emotions, even the pain of sorrow.
