Text: Philippians 1:7-11 | Speaker: Levi Bakerink | Description: As a loving and faithful pastor, Paul is constantly lifting up his beloved congregation in prayer (1:3-4). But what is he praying for? He tells us in verse 9. "This is my prayer," Paul says, that they would abound more and more in love, knowledge, and discernment; so that they would be pure and blameless on the Day of Christ; by being filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes from Christ alone. In other words: they must be before they do. It is the work of Christ that fills them and makes them pure and blameless. We, likewise, are called to be who we are: children of God, resting in what Christ has done, all to the praise and glory of God.
