Christmas is billed as the 'most wonderful time of the year'! But Christmas can also be the most depressing time too, perhaps this year more than ever. With the pandemic and possible lock down, with families not able to be together as in other years, or loved ones missing due to death, this Christmas will be a challenge for many. So what is the hope in the midst of crisis? Ahaz, king of Judah, was facing a crisis of his own making. They had lost the sense of the presence of God in their lives. They felt alone, abandoned by God, and helpless to do anything about their current situation. What's the answer to hopelessness? One word: IMMANUEL-- 'God with us'. God demonstrates His presence with Israel through Providential Means by miraculously defeating Israel's enemies. God demonstrates His presence through a Prophetic Message given to Isaiah for Ahaz--a message of hope. And God demonstrates His presence through the Promised Messiah-- a 'virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.' Jesus Christ is not only the fulfillment of that promise but source of our HOPE as we face our own crisis! IMMANUEL-- 'God with us!'
