In this Chapter Joshua was to take his people, the Israelites into the land of Canaan, but between the wilderness and the promised land was the flooded the Jordan River.
The Jordan River flooded in the spring time, normally the river would be about 100 feet across, that's about 30m, but when it was in flood it broadened to about a mile in width, a river that was impossible to cross.
Im not sure if you have ever crossed a flooded river but it can be a terrifying experience.
The Israelites were in an impossible situation but they were not alone, God was with them.
In Joshua 3 God's people were able to cross an overwhelming river because they had an overcoming God.
Israel's God was a God of Miracles…. and our God, The Lord Jesus, is the same, yesterday and today forever.
Now if something is overwhelming you today I want you to remember that we have an overcoming God.
There was a land of opportunity for the Israelites but between them was a river of difficulty that only faith could conquer.
The Bible says: Rom 8:37 …we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
No matter what your river of difficulty is today…. you need to realize that ….God is able…. to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, (Eph 3:20
Now both Joshua and the people of God had to step out in faith if they were ever to enter the promised land and receive the blessings of God.
Now in verse 5 God's people had to consecrate themselves. Israel had to be spiritually prepared for the days ahead.
God wanted his people to be Holy before He did great things for them.
