Here is America we know little of royalty as our presidency is not passed along blood lines. But in other countries that have a monarchy, the expectations of an heir to the throne brings great joy, hope, and stability. Isaiah prophesied at a pivotal time in Israel's history. The Northern Kingdom of Israel is about to be wiped out by the Assyrians for their disobedience and idolatry. The Southern Kingdom of Judah is following the lead of Israel, but is about 100 years behind. But what happens if the kingdom of Judah falls? Their defeat puts in jeopardy the promise made to David that his kingdom and throne are established forever. To them Isaiah delivers the message of the Promised Birth of the King. "Unto us a Child is born. Unto us a Son is given and the government will be upon His shoulders. And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The real of the LORD of hosts will perform this." (Isaiah 9:6-7) This promise was partially fulfilled at Christ's first coming, but will be fully realized at His Second Coming when He will establish His kingdom here on earth!
