Daniel chapters 10, 11, and 12 are contextually unified. Daniel is in his early 90's now, and it's been two years since his last vision. He is very concerned about his people since most of them have not returned to Jerusalem after it's destruction and rebuilding. He has been fasting and praying and not annointing himself for 21 days, steadfast and true in his faith, believing the Lord God will answer his prayers and tell him the future of his people. We learn that after the 24th day, Gabriel does show up, telling Daniel of his struggles with a war and how Michael came to help so Gabriel could bring the message to Daniel from God. We see here how the armies of angels struggle with Satan and his army of demons and fallen angels.
