Would anything change if Titus 1:4 said, "To the pastor of the church of Crete," instead of, "To Titus"? Is the identification of the recipient of this letter significant? Clearly, the answer is, "yes." All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable" (2 Tim. 3:16). Even the tense and number of the words of Scripture are significant (Mark 12:26–27; Gal. 3:16). So God's inspired gift of the name "Titus" is worthy of our attention.
Since this sermon is a character study on Titus let's start by reflecting on the validity of this approach.
