David and his people were ecstatic because the Ark of the Covenant was being brought in to its permanent resting place in Jerusalem. Why their great joy? It was because God's special presence on earth abode over the Ark, between the cherubim, and would now be placed at the center of the religious and political life of Israel. Their worship was marked by thankfulness to Yahweh for his goodness and steadfast love which endures forever. The supreme manifestation of the fact that God is good is the fact that he sent his Son to rescue us from our sins and bring us into unending fellowship with himself.
