One of the main problems that Israel would face as a nation in covenant with God was the tendency to forget. This is more than simply an important fact slipping the mind. Rather God highlights the importance of an active use of the will in remembering when He follows the great confession of Israel in Chapter 6 with the warning that they must not forget God, the God who saved them. We see in national Israel a hideous defect common to all: we choose to not remember God. In the salvation purchased for us by Jesus Christ, we have our will and mind redeemed – we must daily exercise them in remembering God and what He has done for us.
