Christians believe in the forgiveness of sins. As an article of faith we trust that God will not hold our sins against us because of the sacrifice of his Son.
But what do we do with this precious truth? What role does forgiveness play in our relationship with God, and our relationships with others?
The seeking and granting of forgiveness is how disharmonious relationships are retuned. Forgiveness is an essential partner to grace; we cannot earn the Lord's favor, he must grant it by pardoning our sins. And, on a lesser scale, our neighbors too will never love us the way they should. We can either choose to treat them as failed partners in a covenant of works or extend to them the grace we have received from God. Believing in forgiveness means receiving forgiveness from God and reflecting God's forgiveness toward others.
