In Exodus 16, the Israelites need for water is followed by a need for food. Despite seeing God protect them from the Egyptians and provide for them in the most uncompromising of circumstances, the Israelites continue to be ungrateful. In their grumbling, they accuse Moses of bringing them to the wilderness only to kill them. The problem with God's people here is their lack of total reliance on God. Even though they are out of Egypt, and away from Pharaoh, Egypt is still in them.
It is hard for God's people to progress when they see themselves as victims, even when they have been set free. The Lord walks with His people even in the wilderness. The Lord is using the wilderness of our lives to form our character. And even though we may be dissatisfied by the process, God continues to graciously provide for our needs. Whenever we need something, God is testing our faith, just as he tested the faith of Israel. The Lord is teaching us to depend on Him for our daily bread. We need to depend on him for everything because He is our all sufficient provider!
