When talking about a day of the week, believers should not call it 'the sabbath'. It is not! The sabbath, as it concerns a day of the week, was a Jewish day, an old-covenant concept, and does not belong to the Christian. It did not belong to all men indiscriminately; it does not belong to all men today; it belonged only to the Jews; it has now been abolished in Christ since he is the true sabbath. If only this was understood and acted upon! It would save any amount of trouble and confusion. Too many try to apply the fourth commandment to believers in a semi old-covenant, letter-ridden way. Since they are under the new covenant, however, believers should no more keep the sabbath than they should sacrifice, set up priests, build a temple or keep the Passover.

Christ is our Sabbath Had a thought while listening to this powerful discourse on the Sabbath...
Believers desire so much to show God how much we love Him, we want to obey Him, honor Him, these desires we translate into religious activity, church attendance for worship etc, but I think in the doing of religion the heart often gets distracted away from God, as we go through the motions, weekly perform routines without really engaging the heart in intimate communion in the Spirit with God or with others, simply too much distraction and conformity to fix our full attention on our Lord, so what started in the heart for Him, is lost in the doing. The very act of doing for God focuses us back to earth, to self, on our efforts, in truth bolstering own sense of worth...and placing our trust there too.
BUT GOD knows this is what we always do! He knows our hearts!
That is why Christ must needs be our Sabbath!
How is it we, who cannot truly imagine the greatness and majesty of our Triune God yet imagine we can “do” something that would measure up or be worthy of Him?
God all throughout scripture is seeking the hearts of His people, men after His Own Heart...hearts that truly rest ie trust Ie believe in Him and that He really meant It is finished, His work finished ours...
In truth we see our efforts fal
