I. The Magi Worshipped and Celebrated in the Birth the Savior King (vs. 1-11):
1. The Timing of Magis’ Arrival – About 1 Year after Birth (vs. 1-2, see Luke 2:39, 41 – lest right after circumcision/went to Jerusalem every year; Matthew 2:7, 16 – the timing of the star; Matthew 2:11 – the Magi went to a “house,” not a “stable”)
2. The Magi were greeted with Fear & Contempt by Herod & the People of Jerusalem – Given a Mission by Herod (vs. 3-8; John 6:15; Micah 5:2)
3. The Magi are Guided by the Star to Jesus, who They Worshipped & Gave Gifts – “Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh” (vs. 9-11)
II. Herod was “Troubled” by the Birth of Savior King (v. 12-23)
1. Two Warnings – One to the Magi; the Other to Joseph (vs. 11-14)
2. Herod Orders the Death of Male Infants, 2 years and younger (16-18; Jeremiah 31:15; Romans 8:35-39; Psalm 43:14)
3. The Family Return to Israel; to Nazareth (vs. 19-23, 15; Hosea 11:1; John 1:46
