The church in Pergamon took a stand where Satan's throne is. You would think that there would be nothing to condemn in such a church. But Jesus said that they must repent because they had been inconsistent and compromising. The Christian life must be lived with integrity from start to finish. It is filled with turning points and deep and meaningful repentance. We must submit to the authority of God's Word and the leading of His Holy Spirit consistently throughout the whole of our lives. We are both body and spirit. Our spirit drives what we see, hear, and speak. Everything we do in life is influenced by our inner man. This is why our every thought must be brought into captivity to the obedience of our Master, the Lord Jesus Christ. We cannot think independently of Him. If we do this, then we shall not fear the double-edged sword coming from His mouth. He knows the works of our church. Will He commend or condemn them? Will He call us to repent? Will we respond? We must be uncompromising and consistent!
