The only person good enough to purchase our redemption was the Lord Jesus Christ. In a way, that is a fearful thought for those perceptive enough to mull it over. If we really believed that we could earn our way to Heaven by doing good works, then we would also believe that there would be a limit to what God could ask of us. If we did the time and paid the price, then God would see we've done our duty and now we must be compensated. However, if cannot be good enough or do enough good because of our sinfulness, then we are wholly dependent upon Him. If so, then we wholly belong to Him. If so, then there is nothing He cannot ask of us.
